Facilitators help to direct the Getting Ahead class. It is necessary for all facilitators to go through a training to get an idea of what topics will be covered in the class. Phil DeVol, co-author of the book Bridges Out of Poverty and developer of the Getting Ahead program, led the Starkville Bridges Facilitator Training. This day-long event touched on the topics of the structure of the Getting Ahead classes along with ways in which to encourage participation and discussion from within the class.
